ABSTRACT

A hybrid scheme of subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) -code division multiple access (CDMA) combines the advantages of both schemes. The SCM transmission using an optical carrier over optical fiber is very attractive and offers an alternative approach for exploiting many GHz of available bandwidth. On the other hand, CDMA has the advantages of the large user capacity, immunity to multipath and the effective utilization of frequency. This paper reviews the performance of SCM, optical CDMA/CDMA and the hybrid of SCM-CDMA.
