Mathematical Model of Flow, Combustion and Heat Transfer in Pulverised-Coal Furnace

ABSTRACT

The paper presents a mathematical model for simulating physical and chemical processes as well as heat transfer of pulverised coal combustion. The model was modified from its original version, FAFNIR, which had been developed at Imperial College, London.  It embeds equations describing transport of mass, momentum and energy and the combustion of pulverised coal. A two-equation k-e model is used for describing turbulence. The solid and fluid phase combustion is modeled by compromising the accuracy in physical representation with computational time. The simulation is validated against experimental results, which is found to be satisfactory.
